Dear friends
and family,
I
AM IN AFRICA!!!! WOO HOO! Arrived safe and sound (blessings
on the plane as I was upgraded to first class!). I'll write as soon as I
can to fill you in on my progress.
Here's what I'm going to be doing:
First, I will be allowing God to work in
my life through the personal enrichment that comes from this type of a
mission trip.
Second, I will be receiving ministerial
training. This will include working with small groups as we determine our
spiritual gifts; receive mentoring and learning how to effectively reach out
to the different people groups of South Africa.
Third, I will also be exposed to
different youth ministries. This will give me an opportunity to observe and
learn from youth disciple-making ministries in the Johannesburg area. This
experience will include urban and peri-urban youth ministries.
Fourth, we will encourage local
Christians in Johannesburg. Our presence will bolster their spirits and
support their work. I will visit many small communities where we will
develop relationships with the Christians there, along with work alongside
with orphans and schools.
I'm excited
about the opportunity and experience that lies ahead. In the summer of 2009 I
was blessed to go on a mission trip with First Baptist Church of McKinney on a
week trip to Johannesburg with J-Life. On that trip we were blessed enough to
work with a church in an extension (government housing units) and help grow
their church, build a playground, do neighborhood evangelism, witness at schools
and work with orphans. Since that summer, that trip to Africa has remained on my
heart and my desire to return has done nothing but grow. I know that this is
where God wants me for the summer and I hope you see the value in what I will
accomplish. As you can imagine, a trip like this requires financial support from
a number of people. I need to raise $3,500.00 in order to make this mission trip
possible, and any additional money raised that exceeds the price of my trip will
be donated to J-Life to help fellow missionaries and people all across Africa.
If you can support me in a financial way, I would be very grateful. And, most
importantly, I also need your prayer support. Prayer is the fuel that will allow
me to be successful I we follow God's leading in ministry in South Africa.
Without prayer, nothing will happen.
Coveting your prayer support.
God Bless,
Madeline Cunningham
